Guidance for requesting official information under Sri Lanka’s Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016.
Your right to request information
Sri Lanka’s Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016 provides a process for citizens to request information held by public authorities, subject to exemptions in the Act. A request should clearly describe the information required and provide contact details for the response.
How to submit a request
Send a written request to the school’s designated Information Officer or contact the school office for the current officer’s name and submission method. The official RTI-01 form is available from the Government RTI portal, although the Act does not require unnecessary technical wording.
Decisions and appeals
If a request is refused, delayed or incomplete, the applicant may use the review and appeal process described by the RTI Act and official RTI forms. Current forms and guidance should be checked on rti.gov.lk.
